Chitto Harjo of the Creek Indians – known as “Crazy Snake” – was an important symbol of resistance to the breakup of tribal lands. Harjo met President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 and testified before a senate panel in 1906 , unsuccessfully pleading his case.
