Independence Day weekend was less eventful for me than in past years but at the last minute I hit the road with a handful of supplies and my kayak. Starting off the abbreviated trip at Art In The Park in Lodi, Wisconsin. Arts & craft fairs are okay but not my normal scene – why am I here?
Someone pointed to me that David Hedquist, author of Waterfalling in Wisconsin: The Complete Guide to Waterfalls in the Badger State, was signing copies of the new edition of his book. As a fellow waterfall enthusiast I decided to pick up a copy and introduce myself. His wife Val was also selling handmade wooden birdhouses. Nice people and great to meet other waterfall “nerds”. David is mainly found on Facebook and other local area festivals and fairs in the summer months.
Surprisingly I also came across this fantastic booth filled with hand-drawn maps made by a guy named Jesse who also goes by the name Medieval Mapmaker. He has so many different maps available and the quality is top-notch. And they are extremely affordable for the quality! He has an Etsy shop where you can check out his work.
Unsurprisingly I purchased his map on Wisconsin Waterfalls (go buy one here). I’m sure you are shocked! Honestly though this map is solid, definitely going up in my office / adventure planning room.
