My failures at Mammoth Cave reverberated all the way into camp tonight as original plans were blown to bits. I made good progress heading north towards home but it was getting very cold outside now. Winds were howling meaning no campfires and most campgrounds are closed for the season limiting available options. I found some last-minute refuge at Stonelick State Park‘s campground.
Quick look at the weather app confirms temps are already below freezing and dropping into the teens overnight (with windchills around 0°F).
It was a rough sleep even with my warm bedding. Water bottles by my side were frozen into a solid block. I slept in as long as I could just trying to stay warm. Temperature on the mirror display shows a balmy 18°F.
A few of the snow flurries overnight were still present on the windshield as evidence. Cold. I need to find some hot coffee and thaw out. Back on the road.
