I left elk camp in search of something new. Something that was true, that gave me answers to the emptiness I felt inside. Oh wait – I just needed lunch. Well anyways I was in Roswell now so figured I should check out some alien tourist traps. I give you the tinfoil-hat Mecca known as the International UFO Museum And Research Center.
For those who are unaware, in 1947 a USAF weather balloon crashed and a bunch of nutters thought it was aliens. Since then it was confirmed to be a balloon but conspiracy theorists don’t care much for “evidence” and “truth” apparently. I mean look at this guy’s face:
The museum contains some historical relics like this radio command center that was used during transmission of the 1947 incident.
Walls are covered in photographs, poster boards, and news clippings giving timelines of major events.
They even have a huge library & archive section that you can dig through and find evidence yourself. The answers are out there…
All throughout the museum are elaborate displays of alien props, spaceships, and movie set artifacts. Some generic displays of little green men & alien corpses:
And more famous ones like Gort from The Day The Earth Stood Still:
Finally the actual props from 1994 Showtime movie “Roswell“:
It’s a neat place if you like kitschy tourist stuff or belong to the crowd who likes conspiracies. But for me, spending an hour here was enough for one lifetime. Moving onwards and upwards, twirling twirling towards freedom!
