What time is a good time to eat a pasty? Answer: Any time, especially when you are in the land of pasties. I started the day finishing homework and doing laundry at the hotel, and today is once again record heat with temps in the upper 80’s. A quick re-supply at Walmart and I was almost back on the road but I couldn’t pass up air conditioning and a quick lunch at Dobber’s Pasties in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
Outside stands a large sign with a large pasty graphic and a claim to have six (6) kinds of pasties. My belly only has room for one right now, but I’d be lying if I said my eyeballs didn’t want to try for more.
Right down to business with one of the classic 3/4 lb. beef pasties which is what Dobber’s is best known for. Initial impression on first glance: crust looks nice and flaky, and it smells amazing. The paper plate is encouraging – no frills usually means loads of flavor.
Beef, potatoes, rutabagas, and onions. Good seasoning, added a bit of ketchup as is customary when you don’t have gravy. Not bad at all, not bad indeed. As I’m typing this post from the future I wish I had another one right now. Yum!
The road trip continues and I foresee many more pasties in the near future…
