First time driving Santa Fe south to Las Cruces. Enjoyed seeing all the different mountains along the way. Didn’t spend much time in Las Cruces, and what little time I was there was spent catching up with family and preparing for elk hunting.
After the hunt I was gifted some Hatch green chiles to take home – quite the delicious souvenir! My time off is coming to a close, now it’s time to hit the highway and put miles on fast heading east.
Author’s note: I am revisiting old posts from my 2016 road trip because I posted all of them from my cell phone and some of them are a bit of a mess. Main reason is to properly edit photos rather than just having what came out of my phone camera, and to include higher res photos from my mirrorless camera that never got published. Additionally some of the locations on the Geomap are wrong or often have multiple locations in a single post. OG text should be captured in a summary field when available.

Didn't spend much time in Las Cruces, but I did manage to pick up some Hatch green chiles and packed them in ice to bring home. For those that don't know, Hatch, NM is the chile pepper capitol of the world and you can usually only get these in New Mexico (to my knowledge). Thanks Sue, Dad, and Jordan for the peppers and great to spend time with you both at home and hunting!
