Custer State Park – Game Lodge Campground

Camped at Custer State Park – Game Lodge Campground last night. The sites are a little wonky but overall it’s a nice spot with some of the only foliage changes I have seen in the area. Bonus they have hot showers even this late in the season. I stayed at site 52E which was the only one left open and it was next to Grace Coolidge Creek which sounded nice but I couldn’t see any of it in the dark as I arrived very late. Here’s the only photo I took as I was driving away for more fun adventures the next morning.

I’m mainly posting this just to share on the Geomap, but also to comment about South Dakota’s park/campground reservation system and app. Until this point I had little problem, but this one particular day was a friggin’ nightmare. Their iOS “app” basically just loads a web browser and works worse than just opening a browser. The website does not show that some of the primitive campgrounds are closed for the season – I know this because I drove around to multiple locations to find “closed” signs when online says nothing of the sort. Online also wouldn’t let me reserve at Game Lodge Campground and if you call the hotline they charge you a $2 fee which is normally fine, but if their site/app doesn’t work and the only way is to call it in why charge an extra $2? Crazy stuff.
