Reached the point in my trip where it’s time to start heading east to begin the return home. I wanted to visit the last site at Petroglyph National Monument but didn’t realize it had a curfew before I arrived so it wasn’t meant to be this time. Traffic in ABQ was making me cranky and I just really wanted to get out of town and away from people. Time to hit the road.
I hopped on I-40 E which is not one of my favorite drives but is the most direct way to make a bunch of miles. Along the way I found a new least-favorite trucking line: Werner. See Exhibit A below of this jackwagon blocking off the left lane like an amateur for about 100 miles. I’ve only seen Swift drivers pulling shenanigans like this before. Everything near Texas is bigger, including and especially the asshats.
On the plus side if you like vast expanses of literally nothing at all and big open skies then this is the place for you. Every so often there are dilapidated ruins of vintage Route 66 Americana if that’s your thing. Cruise control and something on the stereo to keep from falling asleep are the keys for me.
A beautiful sunset in my rear view was fitting. Adiós for now, New Mexico.
