Camp for tonight is at the Jemez Falls campground in the Jemez National Recreation Area. This is part of the Santa Fe National Forest in the Jemez Mountains, and borders on the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
Being a Sunday night, camp is only about half full (if that). According to the posted signs there might be more yellow jackets in camp than other people. Quiet and peaceful tonight, winds are calm, and weather is clear.
Sites are well maintained and for the most part very level. Camp is situated in a Ponderosa Pine forest. Sites have nice picnic tables and fire rings.
I didn’t have a fire tonight as some places I had recently traveled through were under fire bans; other campers were having small fires so it seems this area was OK. No matter, I enjoyed the peace & quiet in the woods. Planing to hike to the falls in the morning.
