My adventures for the day ended a bit early, but I didn’t get the best sleep last night and the drive back down the mountains felt like rushing things. I heard there were some good dispersed camping spots in the Pike National Forest so I decided to check those out. “Nice” is an understatement – these spots are like four star camping accommodations if you want to get away from people. I had one neighbor a few hundred yards down the two-track forest road and nobody else in sight (and frankly I’m not sure anyone was at the camper on this night).
Weather was beautiful today so I mostly just sat around camp until dark, amusing myself for a while by doing an impromptu Toyota Tacoma photo shoot. Did a bit of planning for tomorrow, cooked up some dinner, and then watched YouTube or something until I fell asleep. Yesterday I was in a loud parking lot off the interstate, tonight I was in the forest with not so much as a bird making sound. Just a slight cool breeze and lots of sheep to count.
Morning temps had dipped into the low 30s and probably below freezing overnight but I couldn’t tell. Slept like a rock in the cool late autumn weather. Ready to get back on the road heading south to the border!
