Final stop for me today on the Cloud Peak Skyway National Scenic Byway at the Tensleep Canyon Interpretive Site pullout.
A sign adjacent to the pullout details the Leigh Creek Monument, a stone construction left atop the cliffs in honor of English nobleman Gilbert E. Leigh who perished by falling 100 feet off the cliff while pursuing mountain sheep.
Down in the canyon, it’s easy to see how someone could fall from the rugged terrain. The tall limestone cliffs tower above hundreds of feet like castles.
It has been an incredible drive through Wyoming for a novice to western mountain terrain like me. The byway now exits from the canyon to the town of Ten Sleep as I push forwards towards the town of Cody.
Author’s note: I am revisiting old posts from my 2016 road trip because I posted all of them from my cell phone and some of them are a bit of a mess. Main reason is to properly edit photos rather than just having what came out of my phone camera, and to include higher res photos from my mirrorless camera that never got published. Additionally some of the locations on the Geomap are wrong or often have multiple locations in a single post. OG text should be captured in a summary field when available.
