Lake Vermillion SRA camping astro

After spending entirely too much time getting supplies and eating dinner in Sioux Falls, I had to scramble a bit to find accommodations for the evening. Based on where I was heading next, and due to some other parks having started closing campgrounds for the season now, I found a site at Lake Vermillion State Recreation Area in Canistota, South Dakota. Due to the windy conditions and chill in the air creeping in the campground was mostly empty and completely quiet when I arrived. The skies were partially clear but there was a low haze on the horizon that I’m not sure were clouds, smoke from wildfires, dust, or something else. But long story short I was too tired and lazy to get out the main camera because conditions weren’t ideal. I did experiment with my iPhone 13 Pro to see if the night time long exposure feature is worth anything and shockingly it did much better than expected! Of course this is not my best work, just sharing as a sample of how far cell phone cameras have come, and to mark a pin on my interactive hobo map (click here to see it, or click “GeoMap” on the top toolbar).
