Wall, South Dakota trap 2024

Stopped for fuel and snacks in Wall, South Dakota. Doing my best to avoid tourist traps but this place is inevitable. First stop unintentionally was the Wall Drug 80ft tall dinosaur that is right behind the Sinclair gas station (their logo/mascot is a big dinosaur so that makes some sense).

Decided it was time for some lunch. It’s a Sunday during the off-peak tourist season so not many places are really open. But as I was looking for some grub, I parked next to Dahl’s Chainsaw Art shop and witnessed the world’s tallest jackelope sculpture in all of it’s glory.

Two doors away from the jackelope I ate lunch at The Red Rock Restaurant and watched first half of Packers game against the Rams. I was getting too relaxed and almost stayed there, but halftime gave the opportunity to get back on the road and I escaped being further ensnared by the shiny tourist things.

Westward ho!

  1. I hate to think about how many times we have stopped at Wall Drug and how much money we have spent there… but I do love Wall Drug’s Bison Burger!!!

    • Definitely a neat little town and worth visiting at least once. I just usually prefer avoiding these kinds of “tourist traps” since it takes time away from exploring the outdoors. But I agree on the bison burgers, they are delicious!
